New Chicken Pot Holders and the K-Mart Ad

My boyfriend and I were talking about the K-Mart ad. I think it is a little over the line as far as taste goes.  The men can dance around in boxers and that does not bother me.  It is the jingle balls part that bothers me.  If they continued to hold the bells and play them when they jingle their balls, it may not bother me as much.  I was telling B. that it would be like me dancing around in my bra shaking my boobs, it is a little rude.  I went on to say that I realize that K-Mart is trying to sell boxers.  You know the saying that sex sells everything?  If I shook my boobs, what would it say I would be selling?  His comment was sunglasses.................................

More Chickens

Years ago my grandmother and I made several of these chicken potholders.  I find myself longing for some of the hand made items, or similar items I grew up with.  I made 2 more pot holders with a little bling.  They are for sale in my store http://www.custercottage.com

I sell the pot holders to raise money for replacing my flock of chickens and fencing due to neighboring dogs.  I thank all that have supported me in purchases and in moral support.

May you have a wonderful holiday season!  Dawnie

A little gift and more chicken hot pads.

I have a tendency of not being able to leave good enough alone.   I made the hat for my great-nephew.  I decided to make a fake beard for him too.  I am modeling it for you in the first photo.  It is not quite finished at this stage.  The next photo shows the completed form.  In this case, I think not leaving good enough alone turned out great for a young boy.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!  I am very thankful for all I have and for such great family and friends like you!   May God Bless You and Yours!  Dawnie

Small Crocheted Gift Items

This week I completed one gift for my great-nephew and more pot holders to sell in my store.  I sell chicken pot holders to raise money toward the cost of new back yard fencing for keeping out neighboring dogs.  I have not replaced my chickens yet, but I hope to do so soon. My family really misses our back yard entertainment.  I was able to do a little spinning this week too.  Was your week fruitful?  May God be with you!  Dawnie

Nostalgia, Baby Things, & Chicken Potholders

I finished the baby afghan I was working on last week.  It was a simple afghan and I used size 15 needles.  The yarn is very easy to snag.  I think an addition of cotton or wool to the yarn would have helped the fiber snag less.  With the tiny amount of yarn left, I was able to edge a pair of booties.  In my opinion, it really set them off.

I used the new pompom yarn and made a pair of booties.  I think this yarn is a little too girlish.  An afghan may be OK for both sexes, but clothes look too feminine.  What do you think?

I took a break from making baby items and I made chicken pot holders.  I seldom use the type of fibers I have used lately.  My preference is thinner yarn made from all natural fibers such as wool and cotton.  These chickens are safe from neighborhood dogs.

I scanned a few more old pictures and I wanted to share them with you.  The first one is of myself, my older sister, and my grandmother.  The picture is taken on my grandparents farm outside of Colby, Kansas, in front of a corn field.  I love the way grandma is looking up at the camera.  As you see, I did have thin legs at one time.  LOL

This picture was taken with my grandparents, my brothers, and my cousins.  It was probably taken around 1970ish, give or take a year or two.  I was on the far left holding a cousin.

This picture was taken when I was in elementary school.  We lived in the country and my sister and I were walking down the lane, or driveway to the house, which sounds much less nostalgic.

When I was in elementary school(1969), my mother, my grandparents, and all 4 of us kids took a trip to Iowa---in one car.  We were probably in the Mercury.  I learned you could sunburn while riding in a car. LOL   I also remember my Aunt Clara and Uncle Harry had a two story farm house with a  large garden.   I have often thought about that trip, especially on a hot day while I am working in the yard.  I am glad I was able to find this photo.  Too bad I do not have a picture of my aunt and uncle from this time to add to this memory.  I am on the far left and you can't see most of me.  My pretty sister is in front of me.

How was your weekend?  I hope you were blessed with fond memories.  Dawnie
