Why do I like Frizzles?

I think the main reason I like frizzle chickens is due to the uniqueness.  Their feathers are curly and go all over.  Where most birds have feathers going down close to the body, frizzle birds have feathers going away from the body.  Most of the frizzle chickens we see are solid colors, but they can be any color or mixture of colors.  We had some beautiful roosters last year, but we had to take them to a farm outside of town since we are not allowed to have roosters in the city limits.

Today I learned why I really like frizzle chickens.
It is because I fit in.
Queen Frizzle.  Morning hair.  LOL

Baby bibs, fingerless gloves, pin cushions, and laundry soap

I crocheted a new bib using vintage bibs as inspiration.  My bib:

My inspiration:

I will be writing up the pattern if there is interest.  Let me know.

My fingerless gloves are completed.

I am placing the pin cushions on my Etsy site.  I added weights to the bottom of the pin cushion and on the top is a yo yo with emery grit inside.  Emery grit helps the needles and pins stay sharpened.

This is the second batch of laundry soap.  I added less water and  it also separated.  I made a third batch with less water.

The third batch I made has separated a little bit, but I also eliminated more water.  I am planning on making 1 or two more batches of soap with a few variations and I will blog about it and show the results.  All of us want to save money and put out the least amount of effort doing so.

Thank you for viewing my blog.  I hope you have a wonderful week!

New Chickens

I went out to the country to purchase a few chickens yesterday  I took a drive just outside of South Hutchinson where I met a lovely man, Amos, who will be 90 this year.  Amos was born at the farm he lives on. It is amazing to me that the farm has been in his family for over 90 years.  My boys had to bring the chickens into the house for a photo shoot.  I had to share them with you also.

Chicken swing and separated soap

The new swing was installed.  We haven't seen any of the girls on the swing yet.  It is located close to the branch and can be hopped on easily.

I tried to make the liquid laundry soap with grated soap, borax, and washing soda.  It separated.  I researched the web to see what the problem may have been.  I found that the soap I used was super-fatted and I should have used lard or tallow plain hand made soap if I was not using purchased bar soap.  The next batch I made still separated.  Have you experienced this?  Do you have any suggestions?  I understand that separated or not, the soap is fine to use.

Thank you for viewing!  Have a great week!  Dawnie

Chubs

The other day B and I discussed hamburger meat fat amount and brand we liked.  I always want the least amount of fat on my meat, even though fat flavors meat.  I want 96% lean, or around that amount.  B wants closer to 80%lean.  I also like to see what the meat looks like and make sure it is not brown.  These two reasons are why I don't buy the 3 and 5 pound chubs of meat.  Due to this discussion, I dreamed of a 5 # chub of meat used for a weapon during a fight between two people while they were attending a basketball game.  What do you dream of?

I hope you have a great weekend!  Dawnie

Snow.

It snowed today and it was beautiful!  School was cancelled and many went sledding.  Sledding photos after sunset on the embankment of the highway.  Please forgive the poor photos.

I ordered a chicken swing and it came today.  It has lovely packaging.

My babies are warm and dressed for bed.

Stay warm!  Dawnie
