Snow, Chickens, and Soap Sacks

It is a snowing here.  We probably have about 5" on the ground.  No, I am not complaining.  5" is nothing compared to the 3 feet or more of snow that the New York area of our country has.  Both of the kids shoveled snow.  One did the front and one did the back.  I am grateful.  The dogs stayed in.  The chickens were a little reluctant to go out, but they did.

As you see, we have an assortment of types and sizes of chickens.  This may explain the varied egg sizes and colors we get.

I have been making soap sacks.  I wrote out directions in case someone else would want to make them also.

Click on the directions and they will enlarge.

Front and back.  As you see, there is one seam and it is centered in the back.

As you see, I frayed the end about 3/8".  This way it looks a little country/rustic.

I hope you are having a good weekend!  We are enjoying the sunshine along with the snow.  It is a perfect crafting and cleaning weekend!

Snow.

It snowed today and it was beautiful!  School was cancelled and many went sledding.  Sledding photos after sunset on the embankment of the highway.  Please forgive the poor photos.

I ordered a chicken swing and it came today.  It has lovely packaging.

My babies are warm and dressed for bed.

Baking for the Holiday

It is snowing outside.  B made a large pot of chili.  The dogs are napping in the living room on the furniture.  The chickens are out, but under the roof in the screened area.  Since the meals have been taken care of, I am able to bake.  I made fudge earlier, there is a pear-cranberry sauce in the pot, and spritz cookies are just out of the oven.  The light is different outside when there is snow.  It gives off a light type of glow; beautiful!  We always made spritz cookies when I was growing up.  I thought they were better than the ordinary cookie since they had a design and didn't look like all of the other cookies.  With this batch I mixed in a green dye making the cookies marbled green and off-white.  I made trees with this marbled batter and sprinkled them with a light green sugar.  Some of the trees received a few colored beads.

How was your day?  I hope you had joyous times with friends and family.  Merry Christmas!

More Snow!

We had another snow, but with more blowing wind.

Would you like to go for a bike ride?

The trees are beautiful!

We had our first speckled egg yesterday!

Thanks for viewing my blog!  Blessings to you and yours!  Dawnie

Snow Again!

It is snowing again and the flakes are huge!  These look 1/2 to one inch in size.  I had to look up the largest snow flake on record.   On January 28, 1887, at a ranch by Fort Keogh, Montana, the recorded snow flake was 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick.  That is more like an iceberg to me.  LOL

Happy Winter Day!  Dawnie

Grandma's House

Over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house we went.  The GPS knew the way to carry the Suzuki and no white or drifting snow until we almost there......
Grandma baked and blessed us with a hot breakfast.  Our visit was very enjoyable and we want to go back again soon.  Thank you for viewing and I hope you had a great weekend too!  Blessings to you and yours!  Dawnie
